Voting FAQs

Be sure to be counted and be heard on November 6.

Here are answers to the most common questions related to voting.

If you registered to vote in a previous election, you do not need to register again.

However, you will need to re-register if you:

  • did not vote during the last two general elections, or
  • are transferring from one election district to another.

A: You are eligible to vote if you:

  • are 18 years or older on Tuesday, November 6,
  • are either a citizen or national of the United States,
  • are domiciled in the Commonwealth,
  • reside in the Northern Marianas and has resided in the Northern Marianas for at least 120 days,
  • are not serving a sentence for a felony,
  • have not been declared by a court to be of unsound mind, AND
  • are not confined to a mental institution.

The deadline is Friday, September 7, 2018.

1. A completed Affidavit of Voter Registration – available for download at https://www.votecnmi.gov.mp/

AND

2. One of the following:

  • A copy of your U.S. passport; or
  • A copy of your birth certificate with a photo ID; or
  • Certificate of naturalization with a photo ID

You may submit your application to:

  • the Commonwealth Election Commission office,
  • with Election Commissioners on Tinian and Rota, or
  • by mail, if residing outside the Commonwealth. The application must be mailed from outside the Commonwealth and sent to:

     Precinct 2 (Chalan Kanoa/Susupe)

  • Joeten Kiyu Public Library

     Precinct 3A (Oleai Area)

  • Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium

     Precinct 3B (Garapan Area)

  • Garapan Elementary School (Northern Entrance)

     Precinct 4A (Tanapag)

  • Tanapag Elementary School

     Precinct 4B (San Roque Area)

  • Gregorio T. Camacho Elementary School

     Precinct 4C (Capitol Hill Area)

  • Jesus P. Mafnas Legislative Building

     Precinct 5 (Kagman Area)

  • Kagman Elementary School

     Precinct 6 (Tinian)

  • Tinian Elementary School

     Precinct 7 (Rota)

  • NMC Campus-Rota

Complete an application seven days before the election (45 days for Northern Island residents).

You then will have until November 5 to cast your early voting ballot at designated locations.

An absentee ballot application form will be available for download at https://www.votecnmi.gov.mp/ starting August 23.

Absentee ballot applications must be received by the Election Commission by October 12.
